Overview:
We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the design and delivery of mechanical building services for a range of residential, commercial, and mixed-use developments. This is a flexible position with the option to work on a hybrid basis or primarily remote, depending on your location and preferences.
You’ll be joining a forward-thinking engineering consultancy (building services) focused on delivering sustainable, energy-efficient solutions. This role offers the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to projects from early concept through to completion, working closely with multidisciplinary teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Interpret results from energy modelling and simulation tools to inform mechanical system design.
- Size and select equipment such as chillers, AHUs, FCUs, pumps, ductwork, and diffusers based on engineering calculations.
- Liaise with manufacturers to specify appropriate mechanical systems and components.
- Calculate ductwork and pipework sizing, pressure drops, and velocities.
- Create detailed layouts for ductwork, piping, and control systems using AutoCAD, and ideally Revit MEP.
- Produce mechanical (HVAC and public health) design drawings, specifications, and equipment schedules.
- Collaborate closely with architects, structural engineers, and electrical designers to integrate building systems seamlessly.
- Participate in internal and external design meetings, contributing technical expertise and design insights.
- Provide support during design reviews, approvals, and coordination stages.
- Lead mechanical aspects of projects from initial scope handover through to successful completion.
About You:
Ideally you would be a Degree-qualified in Mechanical Engineering within the Building Services Engineering, or a related field. You would have several years of experience in mechanical building services design to UK standards.
- Solid understanding of HVAC system design and energy performance considerations.
- Proficient in AutoCAD; Revit MEP experience is highly desirable.
- Comfortable managing and delivering multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to lead design coordination effectively.
- Chartered Engineer status (or working towards chartership) is advantageous.
