My client – a medium sized MEP consultancy that offers a comprehensive range of building design services, specializing in sustainable mechanical and electrical engineering – is now looking for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer within the MEP sector to join their Building Services team in Hertfordshire.

Job responsibilities:
To take the lead in the overall preparation and submission of detailed design and coordination of Building Services solutions, including Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Public Health
Understand, appreciate and adopt the Company Core Values.
To be competent in the full range of mechanical and public health design principles, calculations and current codes of practice and legislation.
Able to lead a project of a mechanical nature internally and client facing.
Liaise with the lead electrical engineer to ensure full coordination and integration of the engineering services design.
Able to conduct and report upon existing mechanical systems and conduct site surveys of existing and new build projects.
Problem solving of existing projects (designed and installed by others).
Adopt Company Procedures throughout the design process.
Production of concept design and concept design reports.
Feasibility studies and system evaluation reports.
Production of detailed designs and specifications.
Maintain comprehensive design file.
Production and checking of CAD drawings/BIM model.
Produce scheme design drawings for CAD.
Input design information into the thermal modelling process.
Produce design sketches.
Liaise with suppliers to obtain knowledge and costs.
Adopt flexible attitude to project and design.
Understanding of IES, TAS, AutoCAD and Revit.
Understanding of BREEAM and discharging credits within the engineering design,
including submission of relevant evidence.
Adopt Company Procedures throughout the duration of the project.
Taking the lead on all communications with clients.
Advising on project progress to the team and the client.
Interpreting project requirements.
Communicating with design team members.
Prepare written reports for DTM’s.
Convene technical domestic meetings with team.
Fully familiarise with RIBA/BSRIA Stages of Work.
Prepare project plan at outset.
Prepare project programme for design/pre-construction.
Produce design stage reports as appropriate.
Produce cost plans and pre-tender estimates.
Job requirements:
Relevant qualifications such as ONC/HNC/Degree in Mechanical Engineering or
Building Services Engineering, working towards chartership status is preferable.
Previous experience within a consultancy environment or design contractor.
Min of 8 years industry exposure
Ability to work both individually and as part of a team.
Good communication skills.
Ability to mentor/manage more junior staff members.
