About the Role
We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join a growing building services consultancy based in Harrogate. This role offers the opportunity to work on a diverse portfolio of projects across both public and private sectors, with construction values ranging from small-scale refurbishments to multi-million-pound new builds.
You will be responsible for delivering mechanical designs across all RIBA stages (1–7), contributing to the development of high-performance, energy-efficient building systems.
Key Responsibilities

Design mechanical services including HVAC, heating, ventilation, chilled water, and BMS systems.

Produce technical specifications, performance criteria, and tender documentation.

Create and develop detailed drawings using Revit, AutoCAD MEP, or other 3D modelling tools.

Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams including architects, structural and electrical engineers.

Conduct feasibility studies, site surveys, and design reviews.

Provide support during installation, commissioning, and handover stages.

Ensure designs comply with current building regulations, standards, and sustainability targets.

Contribute to risk assessments and value engineering exercises.

Support the mentoring of junior engineers and participate in internal reviews and CPD sessions.
Required Skills & Experience

Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering.

2–5 years’ experience in mechanical building services design.

Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD MEP, or similar 3D design platforms.

Strong understanding of UK building regulations and energy-efficient design practices.

Solid technical and analytical skills, with experience across various project stages.

Ability to work independently and within a collaborative team environment.

Effective communication and coordination skills with clients and stakeholders.
Desirable
-
Progress toward Chartered Engineer (CEng) status.

Experience with thermal modelling, energy assessments, or retrofit design.

Familiarity with standards such as BREEAM, CIBSE guides, and Part L compliance.

Background working on commercial, education, residential or public sector projects.
