Intermediate Mechanical Design Engineer Ref 2081
About the Role
We’re looking for a confident, capable Intermediate Mechanical Design Engineer to join a small but growing MEP consultancy based in Rotherham. With a steady pipeline of residential, commercial, warehouse and care home projects across the UK, we’re now seeking someone who can hit the ground running.
You’ll be joining a tight-knit team, so this role is ideal for someone who thrives in a smaller environment where their voice is heard, their contribution matters, and there’s room to shape how things are done.
What We’re Looking For
This isn’t a role for someone just starting out — we’re after a Mechanical Design engineer with solid experience (typically 3–6 years), a strong handle on UK building services design, and the ability to work independently without constant supervision.
Revit MEP proficiency is essential. We design directly in Revit from concept onwards — there’s no 2D stage — so you’ll need to be fully comfortable modelling and coordinating in a 3D BIM environment from day one.
Key Responsibilities for the Mechanical Design Engineer
- Deliver mechanical building services designs (HVAC, hot & cold water, ventilation, drainage etc.) from concept to construction
- Produce coordinated 3D Revit MEP models and technical drawings
- Work directly into Revit – no handover to BIM modellers
- Collaborate with electrical, architectural and structural teams
- Attend client meetings and site visits when required
- Manage your own time and output in a fast-paced environment
You’ll Need
- 3–6 years’ UK experience in mechanical building services design
- Proficiency in Revit MEP — this is a non-negotiable requirement
- Experience across residential, commercial, warehouse or care home projects
- Good understanding of relevant UK regs, CIBSE guides, Building Regs
- Ability to work independently, take ownership of your work, and deliver without hand-holding
- Strong communication and coordination skills
Why Join Us?
- Work closely with senior engineers and directors
- Be part of shaping a growing consultancy with real input
- Work on a variety of interesting mid-sized projects — no healthcare or rail
- Flexible working: 4 days per week in the office (Mon–Thu)
- Competitive salary based on experience
- Genuine opportunities for career development in a lean, supportive team
