Role Overview:
An established engineering consultancy is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to join their Edinburgh office. The successful candidate will lead the mechanical services design on a variety of building projects, working closely with clients and multidisciplinary teams to deliver innovative, compliant, and efficient engineering solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Take responsibility for the development of mechanical services designs in alignment with project objectives.
- Work independently or as part of a larger team.
- Engage directly with clients and other members of the design team, including participation in meetings.
- Produce complex engineering calculations and comprehensive designs for M&E building installations.
- Oversee technical outputs and, where appropriate, contribute to financial reporting related to project work.
- Manage and support a team of engineers and technicians, including design verification and quality assurance.
- Deliver complete mechanical engineering solutions from concept through to final handover.
- Prepare technical specifications, design reports, and other project documentation.
- Assist in planning and monitoring project resourcing and job expenditure.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients to support long-term partnerships.
- Ensure all work complies with internal business management systems.
- Contribute to the professional development of junior staff within the practice.
Preferred Skills and Experience:
- Demonstrated experience in mechanical services design across a range of building projects.
- Leadership and management experience within a multidisciplinary team environment.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to engage effectively with colleagues and clients.
- Proficiency in industry-standard software tools such as NBS, IES, Bentley Hevacomp, or similar.
- Experience using AutoCAD and Revit for design coordination and documentation.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Degree-qualified in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline (preferred).
- Working towards or already holding Chartered Engineer (CEng) status with MCIBSE (preferred).
- A minimum of five years’ experience at senior engineer level.
- Possession of a valid UK Driving Licence
