BSV Recruitment

About the Role & Practice

Join an established and forward-thinking building services consultancy with a strong reputation for delivering technically robust and environmentally responsible design solutions. Based in central Bristol, this consultancy has a growing sustainability team and an expanding portfolio of high-performance building projects across commercial, education, residential, and healthcare sectors.

With an integrated approach to MEP and sustainability design, they’re committed to driving innovation in low-energy buildings and helping clients achieve meaningful carbon and energy reductions. You’ll be working in a collaborative, agile, and friendly studio environment—supported by chartered engineers and building physics specialists—where your ideas and leadership can make a tangible impact.

This is an ideal opportunity for an experienced Senior Sustainability Consultant who wants to shape sustainable design from concept through to post-occupancy, with a team that values technical rigour and creativity in equal measure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the delivery of sustainability and energy strategies for planning, compliance, and design development stages
  • Use advanced dynamic simulation modelling tools (e.g., IES VE, TAS, DesignBuilder) to assess thermal comfort, overheating (TM52/TM59), daylight, ventilation, and energy performance
  • Develop high-quality Sustainability and Energy Statements for planning and regulatory compliance (e.g., Part L, EPCs, SAP/SBEM)
  • Conduct building physics analysis and advise on passive design measures—solar control, insulation, natural ventilation, and thermal mass strategies
  • Oversee renewable energy feasibility studies, including carbon impact and cost-benefit assessments
  • Support and coordinate BREEAM assessments, including evidence gathering, strategy alignment, and client communication
  • Collaborate closely with internal MEP engineers and external architects, planners, and clients to embed sustainability at the heart of each project
  • Mentor junior team members and contribute to the continuous improvement of tools and methodologies

Required Skills and Experience

  • Strong technical expertise in sustainability and building physics within a consultancy environment
  • Proficiency in thermal modelling software (e.g., IES VE, TAS, DesignBuilder) and knowledge of TM52, TM59, CIBSE Guides, Part L, SAP/SBEM
  • Experience writing energy and sustainability strategies for planning and building control
  • Understanding of UK Building Regulations, carbon policy, and sustainable building certification frameworks
  • Excellent communication and report-writing skills
  • Collaborative mindset and ability to engage with design teams and clients

Desirable Skills

  • Low Carbon Energy Assessor (LCEA) accreditation
  • BREEAM AP or BREEAM Assessor
  • Experience delivering net zero carbon and whole-life carbon assessments
  • Knowledge of NABERS UK, WELL, or LEED would be beneficial

What’s on Offer

  • Competitive salary, tailored to experience
  • Opportunities for further accreditation and CPD
  • Flexible working and supportive team environment
  • High-quality, design-led project portfolio across the UK
  • A chance to lead sustainable change in a well-respected and growing consultancy
