Principal Electrical Design Engineer
An established and well-regarded building services consultancy is now looking for a Chartered Principal Electrical Engineer to join their expanding team based in Leicestershire. This is a senior position reporting directly to the Director of Building Services and offers the opportunity to take a leading role in delivering complex, design-led projects.
As Principal Electrical Engineer, you will be joining a team that prides itself on technical excellence, client satisfaction, and sustainable design. You will not only manage projects but also collaborate closely with clients and other stakeholders to ensure high-quality outcomes and successful project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
- Lead the electrical design across a wide range of building projects, including those in Healthcare, Commercial, Education, Industrial, Retail, Hospitality, and Leisure sectors
- Design and specify all electrical systems, such as power distribution, lighting, fire alarms, small power, and security systems
- Undertake calculations for electrical distribution and lighting using industry-standard tools
- Attend and contribute to client and design team meetings, representing the business professionally and effectively
- Manage the electrical design process, ensuring deadlines and quality standards are consistently met
- Support and mentor junior engineers, while coordinating CAD and design resources to deliver integrated solutions
About You
To be successful in this role, you will ideally bring:
- A degree or HND in Electrical or Building Services Engineering
- Chartered status with CIBSE or IET
- At least 10 years of industry experience, ideally within a consultancy, although a contractor background will also be considered
- A strong working knowledge of British Standards, CIBSE guidelines, and the IET Wiring Regulations
- Proficiency in Amtech and Relux, or similar design software
- A high level of attention to detail, combined with the ability to work effectively under pressure
- The ability to work independently, as well as manage and guide junior staff
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, along with a proactive and solution-focused mindset
