The company: One of my clients in Scotland is now expanding their Sustainability team. They are looking to hire a Graduate Building Performance Modeller.

Their current board of Directors is an example Graduate Building Performance Modeller of the clear progression available throughout the company; all current company Directors have worked at the company straight from school or university to the board level. Our client is Graduate Building Performance Modeller an independent firm of design, engineers and technical specialists, working across the built environment and they help their clients solve their most complex challenges as we strive to find a better way and shape a better world. Their offer clients the innovation and technical know-how to deliver their projects on schedule, on budget and without compromise. Their Building Performance Modelling team is embedded with our integrated engineering design team who deliver complete building services engineering solutions for projects of all types.

The job responsibilities for a Graduate Building Performance Modeller:

Due to continued growth, we are increasing our Glasgow Office-based team. We would like to hear from Graduates who are interested in developing a career in Building Performance Modelling within the Built environment with focus on modelling HVAC networks.

Working under the guidance and supervision of our experienced Building Performance Modelling team, you’ll develop your knowledge and skills in energy systems modelling and assist with the development of energy, decarbonisation, and sustainability strategies for new-build and existing buildings, supporting our Building Services Engineers and Sustainability Specialists.

You will have the opportunity to gain a thorough understanding of HVAC system and control modelling using the IES VE Apache HVAC software for various environmental systems for buildings, model typical and innovative HVAC systems, optimise HVAC operation and minimise energy consumption and carbon emissions, whilst working towards professional membership.

With the opportunity to assume greater levels of responsibility and autonomy as your professional skills develop, over time, you’ll be supported and encouraged to work towards Chartership, through one of our training programmes.

Candidates should have:

BSc/MSc or BEng / MEng in a subject related to Building Services Design or Mechanical Engineering.
Some knowledge and experience of building physics, particularly about heat transfer, energy balance and thermal comfort.
Excellent communication skills with a positive and flexible attitude.
Enthusiasm for a career in sustainable building services design & controls underpinned by an understanding of our sector and work.

Organised and methodical in your approach to managing your tasks and priorities,
A drive to meet deadlines and a close appreciation of the commercial factors which affect design solutions
The IES-VE is a focus within our dedicated Building Performance Modelling team, and although experience using this integrated analysis tool is not essential, it will be beneficial. An awareness of CIBSE / ASHRAE load calculations, operational energy calculation using TM54, programming language such as Python, will also be of benefit.
