Overview:
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer within Building Services to join a growing and forward-thinking building services consultancy. This role will play a key part in shaping the development of our presence across Scotland and the North East, with a particular focus on Glasgow, Edinburgh, and Newcastle.
Initially remote, this role will evolve into a hybrid model as we establish our new Glasgow office. You’ll be instrumental in driving projects forward while contributing to regional strategy, technical delivery, and business development.
Key Responsibilities:

Lead mechanical design across a variety of building services projects in commercial, education, healthcare, residential, and public sectors

Provide technical leadership on the design and delivery of Heat Networks, low-carbon energy systems, and sustainable infrastructure

Oversee the coordination of projects and teams across Glasgow/Edinburgh and Newcastle

Review and approve design calculations, specifications, drawings, and reports

Mentor junior engineers and support their development through technical reviews and hands-on guidance

Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, contractors, and project stakeholders

Ensure compliance with current legislation, industry best practices, and decarbonisation targets

Actively contribute to business development, including bids, proposals, and client presentations
About You:

Degree-qualified in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering (or equivalent)

Chartered Engineer (CEng) or working toward Chartership

Minimum 8 years’ experience in mechanical design for building services

Demonstrable experience in the design and delivery of Heat Networks (e.g. communal or district heating systems), energy centres, and associated infrastructure

Strong understanding of low-carbon technologies, renewable integration, and system optimisation

Skilled in relevant design tools such as IES, Hevacomp, Revit, and AutoCAD

Effective communicator with experience presenting to clients and coordinating multidisciplinary teams

Motivated, self-driven, and capable of operating independently while supporting the wider business
