Senior / Principal Mechanical Engineer
About the Role
Our client is a progressive and purpose-driven building consultancy, known for delivering sustainable and high-performance solutions across a diverse range of property sectors including retail, commercial, science parks, industrial, and mixed-use developments. With a growing presence in the South-West, they are now looking to appoint a Senior or Principal Mechanical Engineer to join their expanding Bristol office.
This is a key opportunity for an experienced engineer to lead on mechanical design projects, contribute to strategic consultancy services, and help shape the future of building services delivery in the region.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead mechanical design and delivery across a variety of building types, including new build, refurbishment, and retrofit projects.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior and mid-level engineers within the team.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including architects, project managers, structural and electrical engineers.
- Produce detailed designs, specifications, calculations, and technical reports that meet project and regulatory requirements.
- Champion energy-efficient and low-carbon solutions in alignment with sustainability goals and ESG targets.
- Oversee quality assurance and compliance across mechanical engineering outputs.
- Support the delivery of condition surveys, feasibility studies, and technical due diligence for clients.
- Attend site inspections, monitor construction progress, and contribute to commissioning and handover stages.
- Contribute to business development through client engagement, bid writing, and presentations as needed.
Skills & Experience Required
- Degree-qualified in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering.
- Chartered or working toward chartered status with a relevant professional body (e.g. CIBSE, IMechE).
- A minimum of 8–10 years’ experience in building services design, ideally gained within a consultancy environment.
- Proven experience working on commercial, workplace, industrial or mixed-use property portfolios.
- Strong understanding of mechanical systems including HVAC, ventilation, hot and cold water, and renewable technologies.
- Proficient in design and calculation software, as well as specification and report writing.
- Clear and confident communicator, with strong client-facing skills.
- Based in or willing to relocate to the South-West region, with regular presence in the Bristol office.
